The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

lighthearted medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

2.0

the first couple of chapters were nice but became nauseatingly twee, then i got to the twist and it actively made me uncomfortable. also the romance was crap too like mika was doing all the emotional heavy lifting?? jamie can get bent lol i should've dnf'ed

i feel like some cozy fantasy books lack characterization and coasts on vibes and popular character tropes, which if that's what makes you happy fair! i guess that this is just a genre that's very hit or miss for me

also who the fuck names their child terracotta lmao i would be murderous too
