I loved every second of reading this. Read it in one day. Could not put it down. Although it is fiction, so much of it is rooted in real experiences and feelings. Many parts hit me pretty hard and were feelings/thoughts/experiences I've had. I even cried just a little.
The book takes the perspective of all the girls of color in a friend group, maybe even all the girls of color in the U.S., and goes through their lives as a collective in predominantly white spaces with Queens NY as the main backdrop. It goes through their childhood and adulthood growing up, leaving, and returning to the city they grew up in. It goes through their relationships with family, their friends, and their community. It's just just a great book, kind of amazed that this is a debut! I will read whatever Daphne Palasi Andreades writes next!
