The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell

5.0

I've never been so afraid of cardboard cutouts...

This book was chilling. It's set in the 1600s and 1800s and tells the stories of two sets of residents in a large country estate. It's dark and creepy, full of literary jumpscares and things that go bump in the night. I had sort of guessed the ending at one point, but I didn't feel strongly about it and enjoyed seeing how it came about.

I was so engrossed in this book that as soon as I finished it, I went online and pre-ordered the author's next release, which will be out just in time for Halloween.
