Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep
4.0
Interesting premise that magic and magical creatures are real and used as a tourism draw by Mafia-like Families. A lot of wish fulfillment fantasies - independent girl living on her own with tragic past, taken in by rich family (or Family), skilled at magic and hand-to-hand combat, attracted to boy she's supposed to be protecting.
That doesn't make it bad, just a relatively quick read with easy teen appeal. Lots of violence although it's not gory. Definitely the first in a series with an easily-spotted bad guy foiled but a bigger, badder villain running throughout the story and unvanquished at the end.
