Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 1 Volume 2 by Miya Kazuki

4.0

I found the second book notably better than the first book, because the plot had a bit more aim (and also existed in general). It hit a much better spot for Myne's power level and did a good job looking more into her own shortcomings and the consequences thereof. Generally, I'd say Myne was a much more interesting and likeable character in this volume than before, and I'm now more intrigued to follow her journey. The horrid style and translation are still just as much of an issue, sadly. It takes me way longer to read these books than any other books for that reason, and the still very slow pacing (which I however generally like, not everything needs to be a rollercoaster).

I especially enjoyed the two bonus stories at the end. One of the strong parts of this series is that the world really feels lived in, like everyone else also has their own thing going on, which is ultra rare in an isekai. The bonus stories added a lot to that.
