The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

4.0

•I read this as part of a group read but I couldn’t put it down so I did not follow the schedule or spread it out over the month lol

•The God of the Woods primarily takes place in the mid 1970s and it is about a teenage girl who goes missing from a summer camp, the same camp her brother went missing from 14 years earlier.

•the atmosphere and setting was done to perfection. It captured (what I imagine) a summer camp with primarily rich kids in 1970s would be like. I felt fully immersed.

•The characters were interesting, I can’t say I loved any of them, but I could relate or sympathize with some of them. Some were also just so terrible and made me so mad.

•this book was marketed as a thriller and while there is a mystery/thriller aspect I would say that’s secondary, it’s more of general/literary fiction that deals with some hard hitting topics like classism and sexism. I think this made me love the book more because it made me think and had more layers than just a mystery with a bunch of crazy twists and turns.

•If you go into this with the right expectations I think you’ll love this! But if you’re someone who likes fast paced thrillers with lots of twists and turns this might not be for you.
