Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
5.0
For once, Booktok has been correct when hyping a book. Out of the 10 or so I've come across, this is the one that I fell in love with. Fourth Wing reminded me of why I fell in love with fantasy and dragons at a young age. Now, is it the greatest fantasy I've ever read? The greatest fantasy of this year? Not in my opinion.
I listened to the audio version, at first hating it because the narrator sounds like she has an awful cold, but her acting and enthusiasm was well done. But the end it sounded like the narrator had "cleared up".
While at times this still felt like a YA novel, it was enjoyable. All of the characters were unique and well written. Violet, Xaden, and Liam being some of my favorites. The comedic relief was gold and I found myself genuinely smiling or laughing out loud throughout the book. Fourth Wing is an adventurous book with a decent amount of romance and nostalgia.
The cliffhanger wasn't as shocking as everyone made it out to be, but it was a nice surprise nonetheless. (I'd been suspecting something along these lines when she found the hidden note in a particular book.)
I'm looking forward to reading Iron Flame and seeing where the rest of the series goes. I heard it was five books so I'll be surprised and very happy if the rest of the books keep pace with the first.
