The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer
5.0
There’s so many thoughts and feelings swirling around my brain right now, I don’t even know where to start!
Okay, the overall plot is… a lot. The first part of the book is a bit tough going. There’s a lot of world building and characterisation but it’s absolutely necessary because once you get to part 2… wow! I literally couldn’t put it down after that.
It’s really difficult to even summarise what it’s about without giving away some of the twists and turns so I’m going to focus mainly on what it makes me feel. At first, I’m not gonna lie, the main thing my tiny braincell felt was confused! This soon morphed into intrigue, shock, love and heartbreak.
I totally fell in love with Ambrose and Kodiak quite early on. They’re such rich, well rounded characters and it’s hard not to feel everything that happens to them deeply.
The last thing I’m going to say is THAT ENDING! I’m too excited to get to the sequel even though this book has simultaneously broken and healed me whilst also giving me an existential crisis. It’s so worth it though!
