The Housemaid Is Watching by Freida McFadden
2.0
Whelp, I feel bad, but the third book in the series went out with a whimper. It did not make any sense at all. We have followed Millie and Enzo through three books and neither one of them makes any sense in this one. And the entire book is Millie just reacting to things, and not investigating or putting things together at all. And the whole big bad that was revealed had me going what the heck? It just didn't make any sense. It felt like McFadden had written the ending first and then worked backwards. I can't imagine any more books in this series after this.
"The Housemaid is Watching" has Millie and Enzo happily married for 11 years. They have two children, and have moved into a home on Long Island. Millie though feels unsettled when she realizes their home has no blinds, and their next door neighbor keeps flirting with Enzo and getting him to come over and do chores. And then her son starts lashing out and she wonders what is going on with her family and then a dead body is found.
Eh. Millie felt hysterical and like someone I didn't even know through the whole book. I kept reading and wondering when Millie of old would show up. Also Enzo, once again, did not feel like the same character we have been reading. The kids were meh to me and the reveals had me going on for crying out loud really.
The secondary characters were not really good in this one unlike in prior books. The flow was really not great either. I think it's because once again we just follow Millie being hysterical and reacting to things that keep happening.
The ending had a twist but by then I just shrugged.
