The Trap by Catherine Ryan Howard

2.0

This book had a shock ending but the story before that was so lackluster that the ending didn’t even feel deserved. I’ve read thrillers with this type of ending that I’ve loved but with this book it just pissed me off. This book was so slow moving for most of its entirety and too many confusing POVs that in the end made sense but that doesn’t excuse what I felt while reading it. Plot points and characters that we focused on for so long having nothing to do with the main story or the ending, like what was the point??? I feel that Howard has no finesse. A better author could have made the same story with the same plot twists, and ending 100x better. This book could have been fast paced and gripping and I never got that. I appreciate Catherine Ryan Howard’s ambition and I understand what she was trying to do BUT she could have executed it better. This is reminding me why I don’t read thrillers about missing people NEVER AGAIN!
