The Passage by Nabille De La Luz
3.0
"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break."
Where do I start? When I first read the summary of "The Passage" I thought: WOW! That sounds so cool, I need to read that!
And well, I got the opportunity to read the book in exchange for an honest review before it's even published. And now that I'm finished I was thinking about how to write the review so people will read it too and will understand that it has a great potential and that it's unique - because it really is! Now you're maybe wondering why I only give it 3 stars then? Well, let me explain ...
First of all, let's talk about the main character Kino!
I wanted to like her but at times she really annoyed me, I don't even know why but especially in the end she bothered me a lot. Her actions seemed unbelievable and in general I had a hard time to connect with her. But still, I have to say that there were some awesome scenes involving her! It's just her emotions ... I don't know how else to say it, she seemed a bit cold-hearted.
"Despite having many girls around me, she was the first one that I was worried about."
Neal was amazing! I immediately liked him - I don't really know how much I should say about him ... after all it should be a surprise, right? He was the one character I REALLY loved a lot - he acted reasonable (most of the time) and I enjoyed his story and everything he knew about the Zone and Lumen.
The plot itself was awesome - I liked the general idea and story behind everything but I feel like Kino should have been more "included" in everything. Again I can't say exactly what I mean but once you read it, you'll probably know.
I liked Kino's team mates - Link as the funny one, Axel as the handsome leader, Nova and Brea and Beny, who is incredibly smart (and small!) - those "group-scenes" were all amazing and I wanted to read more about all of them! :)
The ending was also really good, maybe a little rushed but definitely full of action! I wish there would have been a few more chapters, explaining all about ... well, Axel and some other interesting stuff but maybe we'll find out in a second book? There are definitely enough unanswered questions that deserve another book!
Seems overall positive, right? It is! Despite the things I mentioned that bothered me, I really enjoyed it! Unique idea with great potential and some nice characters! Of course there's still some work to do and I know it's not the last, finished version of the book - once everything is revised and corrected, I'm sure it'll be an awesome book and definitely worth a read! ;)
