Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman by Robert K. Massie

5.0

When I was a little girl, I was obsessed with Scholastic's Royal Diaries series. Portrait of a Woman is like a wonderfully researched grown up version. You can't help but be engaged by the story of Catherine's life, and Massie manages to pack a great amount of detail about the Russian Imperial Court and Europe's overarching political situation without having the reader feel bogged down.
