Like You Mean It by Jillian Liota
1.5
I stumbled across this in the Audible Plus catalogue and needed something to listen to whilst getting on with mundane tasks. Had it not been for the fact that this was basically a free listen, i would likely have DNF'D it.
Both MCs weren't that great and i really disliked Cole the MMC at times and I wish there had been some indication that for around 80% of the book he would be in a committed relationship with another woman who he does nothing but objectify or talk shit about in his internal monologue. The author also does that thing of making this woman the "bad guy," etc, and it really rubbed me the wrong way. The FMC Annie was the epitome of damsel in distress and constantly needed rescuing in one way shape or form yet was adamant she didn't, all evidence points to the contrary I'm afraid. I felt no chemistry between Annie & Cole so the fact that this turned out to be a clean/no spice story doesn't surprise me as had the author attempted to put that element into this it would have fallen completely flat in my opinion.
This was my first read by this author, and I will try one more before deciding if their writing is for me or not as this one wasn't what I expected it to be given the blurb.
