“They’d made a pact to be friends forever, but forever could be so, so brief.”

Kent, Ephraim, Max, Shelley, and Newt are on Falstaff Island with Scoutmaster Tim for their annual camping trip. When a stranger brings a highly contagious pathogen to their door, it sets off a harrowing series of events. Cut off from civilization, the boys will have to fight the contagion, the elements, and even each other for any chance of survival.

WOW. This book isn’t for everyone, but it is absolutely my kind of horror. The Troop started slowly, building anticipation with each chapter. It’s intense...visceral, gruesome, raw. There are descriptions of animal torture and of death, including child death, that will shock and horrify. There were scenes that made me wince and shudder as I listened.

The pacing was fantastic and I loved the excerpts from interviews, articles, and court records interspersed throughout. The character development of each of the boys was incredibly done. There was such a connection that several scenes tugged on my heartstrings, and I even found myself tearing up a couple of times.

The narrator did an excellent job of capturing the tone and mood of each scene. An easy five stars; I highly recommend for horror fans.
