I can see how this novel set the stage for many thrillers. By today's standards it doesn't translate with the same intensity as, say, Sharp Objects or Gone Girl, but there is some clever writing that entices you to look below the surface. Is Rebecca the figure she is portrayed as? Is Maxim as sympathetic as we are led to believe by our heroine? Definitely a classic worth visiting.
