In Which Matilda Halifax Learns the Value of Restraint by Alexandra Vasti
4.0
Honestly from the description, I expected this novella to be a lot more x-rated than it actually was - though, that's not necessarily a bad thing! Like, this isn't going to be a '50 Shades but it's 1821' kind of novella, so don't come to it for that.
I was completely charmed by this novella. Matilda was a far better character than Margo from the previous book (though I found her personality a little trying when she would suddenly become very innocent for no reason when she was not that person at all). The age gap is a bit dicey, but everything felt very well put together. It's got a bit of the Jane Eyre about it really. The one thing about Alexandra Vasti novellas is she does not waste a page - it's all significant in its own way. There are plenty of steamy moments, but they feel earned and important. Definitely an improvement on the first book in the series.
