Though at times on the nose with its message, it's a very important one nonetheless, it's the voice of a nation, of a people who've been subdued by the worst of the worst of imperialist tendencies. Ngūgī wa Thiong'o's voice is a much needed one for an Africa robbed of its voice in its own languages, in order to feed into the literary canons of the English and French or Arabic languages, in deference against languages such as Kikuyu, Swahili or Lingala, amongst many others
