“When someone says they don't want to be with you, you feel the pain of every single one of those times in life where you felt like you weren't good enough. You live through all of it again.”
My biggest reading surprise so far this year is, without a doubt, this wonderful novel! Alderton’s debut novel Ghosts was underwhelming to me, so I went into this without any expectations whatsoever, but I LOVED it! SO MUCH! It had be both snort-laughing and in my feels throughout, both of which are rare for me.
This book is for you if you’re anything like me and you like:
🍁 realistically flawed characters
🍁 laugh-out-loud moments
🍁 post-breakup introspection
🍁 discussions on gender and society
🍁 supportive friends and family

With this book, Alderton has managed to balance humor and heart perfectly! It’s written from the perspective of the aspiring comedian Andy, and while he’s far from perfect (he’s infuriating in many ways), he’s funny and genuine, and I couldn’t help but relate to and empathize with him at points. He just felt so real! Cause let’s be honest, none of us are perfect, and we’ve all been a bit of a mess at one point or another!
I read it through audio, and the narration was excellent, so I highly recommend reading it in this format!
