Did not finish book. Stopped at 43%.
DNF @43%
I tried. I really did. But there's only so much I can take. I wanted to finish this book SO BADLY but the length of it and Chloe's unchanged behavior is the last straw for me. If this book were gripping, reading it would be a breeze even though I normally don't tend to prefer *very* long books due to my attention span and limited patience. But this book wasn't worth it for me. The premise was really good though - something different and unique - but it isn't enough to make me want to read more.
Look, I love me a FMC who has a backbone and knows how to fight back. But a balance needs to be struck. If there's no romance even near the 50% mark...I'm giving up😭 Apparently after seeing my mutuals' reviews, this goes up to the 90% mark and I definitely DO NOT have the patience to wait until then. Derek was DELICIOUS and completely unhinged which I love in my books. Chloe's repetitive stubbornness got boring after a while.
And Alannah...I'm still very confused about her tbh. When I read a romance book, I really don't like it when the heroine's best friend ogles/thirsts over the hero. Maybe it's because I've experienced friendship betrayal, but that's a BIG NO from me and makes me feel icky because it's very disrespectful imo. The whole thing with the ex-fiancé was really dragged out for no reason. Honestly? I feel really bad for Derek because he's been nothing but caring for Chloe. I mean yeah, he's unhinged but I really wanted to see Chloe give in to him at a certain point and stop fighting. It's fuckin frustrating y'all🙄
Oh, and don't even get me started on the atrocious use of "naan bread" and "naan bread pizza" STOP. JUST STOP🤚🏻 I am sick of seeing things being whitewashed😤 It literally takes a minute to do some research and write the actual name of the food item. It's naan fyi. Saying naan bread is like saying toast bread. NO. Also wtf is naan pizza??? Stop butchering naan - it's perfect by itself or with some kadhai paneer (YUM). And while we're at it, it's not chai tea. It's just chai because chai = tea. And you don't say namaste at the end of a video ffs. Namaste is a greeting to welcome someone😭 Damn. It felt good to get that off my chest. As a brown gal, I was extremely irritated to see these terms being thrown around and carelessly used. I had half a mind to DNF right then and there sheesh💀
Anyways, that's my rant for this book lmao. If you have the patience to sit through a 700+ page book where the romance happens much later, then this is the book for you (this is one of the reasons why I'm not built for slowburn lol - I need some sort of development in the relationship) Brb while I go distract myself by re-reading one of my faves☺️
safety squad:
- no OW drama
- OM drama (h is engaged to OM)
- cheating (not between MCs)
- unhinged OTT J/P H
- breeding kink
- BC tampering
- boy obsessed
- stalking, forced marriage, forced proximity, hall pass (one night) to lovers
- HEA
