A Promise of Lies is the third and final book in the Shadows of Tenebris Court, a dark fae romantasy series. Tropes include shadow daddy, court intrigue, morally gray, touch her and die, fake dating, hurt/comfort/angst, family loss, feminine rage and sandwich. Please see content warnings for dark topics/events and for spicy adult scenes.
The Lovely: I love these characters so so much. The MC’s relationship is so beautiful yet heartbreaking at the same time. I love how they interact, how they treat each other and how they pine for each other. I appreciate how they comfort and support each other. I also loved seeing Kat take her independence to a new level and truly stand up for herself.
Also Lovely: I wasn’t sure how the story would play out but it was fantastic. A couple plot threads I had semi forgotten about came together with other threads, resulting in some wild plot twists. I had fun trying to work out who was behind what as I read.
Rating: 5/5 Stars 3/5 Flames
Recommendation: I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. When Clare said she wanted to take the time to make this conclusion what it should be, she was spot on. I’ve been dying for this book and it hit all the right spots. I snickered, raged, laughed and cried. I loved the conclusion but I’m already sad because I know how much I will miss these characters. Thank you Clare for writing a beautiful series that will forever be a favorite.
