So, I was not expecting to finish this book in two days -- I was reading it at work, and I only have so much time between appointments -- and yet, here we are. I absolutely powered through this book in just two days.
And what can I say? I don't often read memoirs -- I have a lot of opinions around Celebrity Culture and Celebrity Worship, and it feels voyeuristic to pry into someone's personal life just because they play a character I like in a TV show or play music in my favourite band. It's not my business, and it shouldn't be anyone else's business. But there were personal reasons why I chose to pick up this book, despite never watching iCarly.
McCurdy has an immensely readable writing style; it's clear and simple in a way that makes reading smooth and enjoyable and not in a way that that's choppy or annoying. Her writing is poignant.
She talks about a lot of hard topics, but she talks about them well and in a way that never got overwhelming (at least, not for me, who's never had an eating disorder). Her memoir is well organized, and engaging, and my heart absolutely goes out to her.
