This is a very good book, let down slightly by an underwhelming ending. I really loved the story of this "bridge" and her relationship to somebody brought from the past to the present day. Their relationship was, to me, the heart of this book. And… the way it is left… is unfortunate. I'll also be clear: I don't know how it should have ended, but the ending the author has given us doesn't satisfy me: it leaves so much unresolved. It does somewhat resolve much of the larger narrative, but that plot didn't grab me quite so much. And even then, not so much resolution, in my view. I'm left wanting more: either another book to continue to explore this world or another chapter to help me make sense of how it's ending. Maybe the author wanted readers to end in that ambiguity… but I don't find it, in this case, to be an enjoyable ambiguity. That said, bar the ending, I wholeheartedly recommend the book… but the ending was too disappointing for a full 5-star rating
