I think it is very important to read and listen to the stories of those who've immigrated to the US. Kindness should always prevail, but if you know where someone is coming from, learn their struggles, I hope folks are able to find compassion and empathy where they may not have had any.

Something that struck me as a fun fact was that Ilhan had considered a career as a Registered Dietitian. I've had similar situations and realizations in my career as a baby RD as Ilhan- how can we educate folks on choosing more nutrient dense foods when they don't know when or where their next meal will come from? Or how to get to the store, or how to pay for those foods? I love that she's been able to take this experience, grow, and use it to inform policy and change for all, like raising the national minimum wage.
