This is exactly the kind of mystery novel I like: an unexpected story with a colorful cast and a format that resists a police procedural investigation. I was amazed at how Makkai adds so much detail in the her characters story and at times I felt dizzying trying to keep it all straight. But the pace, the anticipation and the feminist cry for justice was incredibly well done and made for a very satisfying read.
