Know My Name by Chanel Miller

challenging emotional hopeful inspiring sad

5.0

I cried on and off through this entire book. It is one of the most heartbreaking yet powerful book I’ve ever read, and It’ll stay with me for a long time!

I want to start off this review by telling you how absolutely incredible Chanel Miller is, both as a writer and a narrator. Her writing holds incredible power, and hearing her story from her own voice is absolutely gut-wrenching.

As this is a memoir, it is very personal, but it delivers a brilliant yet horrific look into the many ways the criminal justice system fails the victims in these cases. Miller writes about all the ways her mental health was affected by the assault, but she grants equal attention to the way the court case itself affects the life of herself and the people around her.

More than that, she lets the reader know her, as a survivor, as an artist, as an incredible woman. Her story will inspire people for years to come, and provides hope that change will come!

I recommend this book to everyone! But that being said, it is incredibly difficult to read, and, given the trigger warnings for sexual assault, you should consider your own mental welfare before diving in!
