Cassandra Clare and her team of authors presented us with yet another great Shadowhunter book! From the POV of Simon showing us his angst towards the Shadowhunter Academy and Ascension, and the backstories of often-heard-of characters (e.g. Catarina Loss, Robert Lightwood) lead the reader deeper into the history of the Shadowhunters.

The book is expertly written, taking the reader on adventure through Simon's quest to regain his memories and his girlfriend (Isabelle Lightwood), all while training to Ascend. It also explains to us a few things from the other series, including Helen Blackthorn's and Aline Penhallow's wedding and how Magnus and Alec come to have their blue warlock child, Max.
