I really wanted to love this book but I think this fell into the cusp of too YA/coming of age for me. We're introduced to this hardened, street-smart girl that falls to pieces once her and the MMC are alone. Several moments of "ugh just talk about it" for me, and while the school and magic system were very interesting, the overall plot and characters didn't resonate with me. I will say it was well-written with pretty prose.
