A Secret Shared with Death: Gods from the Oblivion by Ariella Isabella
5.0
Finally! Another engaging high fantasy! (and yes, the gods do interact with the cast!)
A Secret Shared with Dead is a dark (high) fantasy with a bit of spice the follows our main character Isolde after the loss of her village when it is burned to the ground by elves. What happens next is a series of twists, conspiracy, lies, and deceit. Oh and did I mention that there is a love triangle? I typically don't enjoy love triangles, because they're not executed well. Isabella handled this one effortlessly though and it truly left me wondering of who Isolde should choose....and who the hell could she trust?
Isolde is full of lies and secrets herself and I have a sneaking suspicion that she is not as much of a reliable narrator as we are being led to believe. Her Darkness reminds me of the Nightmare in One Dark Window and I love it! I'm really looking forward to seeing that "side" of her develop, While we see her character development, I didn't recognize = much in our other MCs and am looking forward to see their shift in the next book.
Isabella has a knack for detail. If you're new to the fantasy genre I think this would be a great starting point. While her world is broad and elaborate, there is nothing too complex that the reader can't follow.
I'm looking forward to the next book!
