Kage Unleashed by Maris Black
3.0
I struggle with these two main characters. Half the time I want to hug them and the other half of the time I want to bang their heads together and tell them to stop being fu.. fudging idiots. The narrator for the audiobook is great, which helps a lot and the pacing is such that everytime I’m just about done with these assholes, something happens and I feel like I have to know what’s next. They don’t seem to have a particularly healthy relationship, but with Kage being as traumatized as he is, that’s not terribly surprising. I also suspect that the person who is supposed to be his psychologist and therapist is the one increasing his issues, which is so messed up I want to puke.
This series so far has me both infuriated and engrossed, which annoys me. I don’t think I even want to like this series at this point, but at the same time, I don’t think I can stop reading. I know there’s another trilogy that comes after this one, but I didn’t know that until I started poking around on the author’s page today so I’m annoyed that I still have more books to get through with these two. The third in that next trilogy isn’t out yet, so I don’t think I’ll pick the next set of books until after that one comes out. Especially knowing the way this book ends (it’s a pretty heavy cliffhanger, FYI).
I can’t say I like this series necessarily, but I also can’t seem to put it down.
