A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
5.0
I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die!
I can't speak to the historical accuracy, which I hear is dubious. And I am a little frustrated at Dickens for being much more interested in the personal lives and feelings of Mr. Cruncher & co than those of Lucie and Charles, meaning that I felt I never fully understood or appreciated several main characters' thoughts or motivations.
But other than that, this was a terrible beauty, a portrayal of a man who would have given up hope were it not for the love of those who had not and the words of Christ ringing in his head.
Also, knitting women.
It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.
