The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
3.0
3.5⭐️!
I’m nervous to review this one - from other reviews I’ve seen, this is a very polarizing book. I sit on the fence between love & hate. The Goldfinch is about Theo and how his life is uprooted and forever changed after he experiences a very tragic event that changes the trajectory of his life.
I can definitely see why this is such a beloved book and why it’s award winning. The writing is beautiful and there are some really powerful and thought provoking messages.
At the same time, it was quite dark and visceral. It shows the mundane, boring, tragic, confusing, and intense parts of life. It doesn’t shy away from the ugly. I found this to be very heavy and depressing to read. It’s also very long, I think it could have been condensed and still give the same message.
I would be very careful on who I would recommend this book too and I highly suggest looking up trigger warnings before reading
