"You apologize for everything because you've been taught that your thoughts and feelings aren't valid, but that's wrong..." He pauses, suddenly meeting my gaze. "You are valid."
"You shouldn't measure and compare the legitimacy of your pain against someone else's. Abuse is abuse."

I love going into a book pretty blindly, expecting a cute vampire love story, but getting so much more than that. This book gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside and it made ME feel understood.
The MC Oliver was a character I could resonate with on a very real level. And not, because I had terrible parents (because I love my parents and I cannot have asked for better parents) but because of the abuse I suffered growing up in school and workplaces.
I was exactly like Oliver back when I was younger. I lived on automatic pilot mode. Just trying to survive live and hating every step of it, but not showing it to the outside world.
The 2 quotes I shared with you are things I still struggle with, believing for myself. I always think there are other people that have it way harder than me, that suffered way worse than me and I have no right to complain or feel this way. Equally, believing that my opinions and feelings matter, are also a foreign thought to me sometimes.
That being said, this book showed me that I am not alone in these things, and that there are people that think I am valid, my feelings and thoughts are valid and that whatever happened to me, if I feel like I suffered, that means FOR ME, that was absolutely true and valid and I should never feel like it is not "bad enough" to complain about or suffer with. You know who you are, and I love you for it 😘
Apart from feeling seen and understood, the relationship between Oliver and Aries was absolutely amazing and heartwarming. Everything was about consent, communication, checking up on each other, respecting boundaries. It was an amazing love story and I didn't expect anything less after reading Lore&Lust, one of my favourite series!
