Antisocial: Online Extremists, Techno-Utopians, and the Hijacking of the American Conversation by Andrew Marantz
5.0
This book is a fascinating and terrifying look into the alt-right and alt-lite movements that got Trump elected in the United States. Although a fair amount of the book focuses on social media and how “freedom of speech” on social media platforms led in many cases to the sensationalism and outright lies made up by these people who take deep pride in their trolling abilities, I can’t resist a good character study. And that’s the most fascinating part of this book. Getting into the brains of this array of deplorables is absolutely fascinating, depressing and scary at the same time. The only unfortunate thing about this book is the people who really need to read it, who have been duped into believing the outright lies spun by these people, won’t.
