Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey

5.0

I'll have to come back and update this review later. For now I will just say, wow! I was incredibly skeptical about this book at first. I bought the trilogy from my aunt's used bookstore because it seemed interesting. I looked up the title and author, saw all of the great reviews, and figured, oh why not. These books have sat on my shelf for a year and every time I looked at them I wondered why I even bothered to purchase them because it didn't capture my attention any more the way it did everyone else.

I read this book in five sittings. I might have finished sooner, but I've been living a very busy and stressful life. Carey truly has an amazing way with words and an incredible imagination. I can only hope my writing will ever be half as good as hers.

Phedre is a heroine I never expected. It is true I didn't quite enjoy her character at first, but after 200 pages I loved her. Her love for Delauny, Joscelin, and all of her friends is a truly beautiful thing. Her wit and wisdom was incredibly well-written.

As I said, I'll come back and edit this review. It is 900 pages and I have quite a lot to say.

Pick it up and read it! You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to start on Kushiel's Chosen!
