It was short and sweet.
Firstly, this dealt with some super heavy topics for a book with less than 200 pages, I felt like there was a lot of detail missing that would have helped with the character development a lot. Especially as this is a character driven story, with very minimal plot.
It was very easy to read due to the simplicity and I enjoyed it all the same. It wasn’t too smut heavy and the romance hit nicely, and there were some really funny quotes in there that I’ll be hanging onto 😂
Also, I’m sad we didn’t get to see more of the little boy, Jake. His one liners killed me🤣
But equally it did leave me with some major issues with the story.
Firstly to address the elephant in the room, what the hell happened at the 80% mark, that felt like a curveball that should never have been thrown. I was so disappointed by it
Yes the MMC had redeeming qualities, but mostly he surpassed grumpy and was just straight up mean sometimes
Also, for a 14 year old, Noah had some pretty adult vocabulary, Grant was talking about her using slang but not once did she actually say any in her own dialogue
Some of her language came across a little strange given that she’s just turned into a teenager
The smut was very clunky to me, being honest, I skim read most of it because it felt very clumsy, and I almost had second hand embarrassment 🤷🏻♀️
It’s a good palette cleanser but it’s not that memorable for me I’m afraid
