IT | La scrittura di Ursula K. Le Guin è eccezionale, a dir poco. Riuscirebbe a rendere interessante anche la ricetta del minestrone. Detto ciò, tra i suoi libri che ho letto finora questo è quello che ho trovato più lento e meno coinvolgente.

La parte più interessante, secondo me, è quella centrale in cui Lavinia parla con lo spirito di Virgilio. I dialoghi tra i due sono quasi poetici. La sezione successiva, quella in cui si concretizza il destino della protagonista con l'incontro con Enea, la guerra e il matrimonio, che credevo sarebbe stata la mia preferita si è rivelata un po' noiosa per i miei gusti. Avrei fatto a meno di qualche scena di guerra.

È un retelling nell'era in cui i retelling non esistevano ancora e l'ho trovato molto più fedele alla materia originale rispetto a molti retelling moderni e ho apprezzato la maestria che ha avuto Le Guin nel tessere una storia tutto sommato interessante entro i margini di un racconto già ben definito.

EN | Ursula K. Le Guin's writing is exceptional, to say the least. She could make the ratatouille recipe interesting. That being said, out of her books I've read so far, this is the one I found slowest and least engaging. 

The most interesting part, in my opinion, is the central one in which Lavinia speaks with the spirit of Virgilio.  The dialogues between the two are almost poetic. The next section, the one in which the protagonist's fate is realized with meeting Enea, the war and the marriage, which I thought would be my favorite, turned out to be a little boring for my tastes.  I would have preferred fewer war scenes.

It's a retelling from the era when retellings didn't yet exist and I found it much more faithful to the original material than many modern retellings and I appreciated Le Guin's mastery of weaving an overall interesting story within the margins of an already well-defined one.
