Hot Six by Janet Evanovich
4.0
I’m going to try to keep this short and sweet because sometimes posts about books that are further on in a series can get a little confusing. In a few sentences, Janet Evanovich’s series follows lingerie-saleswoman-turned-bounty-hunter Stephanie Plum as she hunts down New Jersey’s finest bail-skippers. With side-kicks like her gun-toting Grandma and a former prostitute named Lula, Steph is the most unconventional bounty hunter her cousin, Vinnie Plum, has ever employed. The hijinks Stephanie gets into, however damaging to her reputation, are hilarious to readers, and though each book contains a mystery element to it, I mainly read these books for the laughs.
I’ve had my ups and downs with some of the books in the series, but overall, they are funny chick-lit with some action, mystery, and romance thrown in.
This book follows Stephanie as she tries to figure out what Morelli and Ranger are up to. Both are investigating the same mob-related murder (which Ranger has been pegged with), working together and leaving Stephanie out of the loop. It doesn’t help that Stephanie has romantic feelings for both of them. In the meantime, though, Stephanie has her grandmother to distract her, as the old lady has just taken up residence in her apartment. Stephanie also makes some new friends in stoners Mooner and Dougie, acquires a pet dog, Bob, and finds herself on the Mob’s bad list as she struggles to find out whether or not Ranger was falsely incriminated and what, exactly, her two leading men are up to.
