The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

3.0

I crawled through this one, and I think me going so slow contributed to the lack of love I feel for this book, so don't take my review too seriously. Wind-Up Bird is a Murakami fan favorite, so I'm the odd one out here for not falling head over heels for it.

But I just walked away feeling like it was too long, and the meandering dreamy thing Murakami does that I usually find charming and magical I mostly just found exhausting this time.

Still, some of the magical dreamy stuff did connect for me. The bits near the end in the "hotel" reminded me quite a bit of the end of the show The Leftovers, to the point that I'm convinced the show lifted directly from this novel.

Overall, I'm glad I read it, but I think it wasn't the right time for me, personally.
