The Ragged Edge of Night by Olivia Hawker

4.0

Set in WW2 Germany, an ex-friar devotes his life to taking care of a widow and his three loving children and resisting the Nazis in his ordinary ways at the same time.

The tone of the book was too religious for me but I enjoyed this brave story that was inspired by a real one. The writing, even though highly descriptive, flowed smoothly. Olivia Hawker is a talented writer and knows it's the little, ordinary things that touch us more than the grand aspects of life. It's funny how the reviewers are giving the book 1 star because the writer decided to state facts at the end of the book. What she described at the end did happen and the language and terms used WERE similar to what was used then. It always helps readers to have an open mind.
