Icebreaker by A.L. Graziadei
4.0
There was a lot to love about this audio book.
Micky is a great MC. He's great representation for the bisexual audiences as well as people struggling with anxiety and depression. Some of the choices he makes are frustrating, but I feel like they're necessary and his overall journey was both entertaining and important. His struggles connecting with his family and friends is definitely an aspect worth brining up here. I don't think that struggles like that are talked about enough in books. Sometimes people aren't terrible parents/siblings/friends, but they make decisions without realising what a huge impact they may have on loved ones, so I'm really glad A.L. Graziadei included that stuff.
I'm kind of obsessed with Jason. I think he was a fantastic love interest and just an enjoyable character overall.
A lot of the side characters added to the enjoyment for me, I loved the rest of the Royals team, Micky's sisters and Nova.
I enjoyed the pacing of this book and I kind of liked that the romance was kind of the background to Micky's personal growth.
What I did not enjoy was the ending. The whole 'who will get picked first' thing was mentioned at least once per chapter and we never got the answer. Usually I'm not opposed to open endings, I like making my own decisions about what happens to the characters after the last page, but on this occasion it annoyed me a bit.
