I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman

5.0

This book is phenomenal. It sets you on a path towards contemplation and leaves you with so many unanswered questions. This book transcends time and is one of the best science fiction dystopian tales that I have read in a really long time. The long rambling form of the narrator is beautifully done - it makes the book feel so intimate and authentic. The questions of what brought these women to their fates is puzzling and left completely up to interpretation, which in turn, allows this story to morph and change, much like a reader, climate, and culture can change. Overall, I am just madly in love with every aspect of the writing - it conjures up deep feelings and probes your mind.

The fact that this book turns THIRTY this year has my mind blown, because 1. how the hell have I never even heard of this book before now and 2. it is absolutely timeless. I generally borrow books, but this is one I will be purchasing and adding to my shelf because I know I will need to revisit it time and time again.
