Vicious Union by Jocelyne Soto
Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
I was suckered in by the cover, and the story didn't deliver what I hoped it would. Considering the MMC Leo is next in line to be the head of a Mexican Cartel I went into this expecting more action, darkness and to see much more about Mexican tradition and Culture included throughout and from what I read very little of that was incorporated. The writing felt formulaic and repetitive, neither Leo nor the FMC Serena had any real depth to their characters.
Not to mention, Serena is just ridiculous. Leo keeps telling her how dangerous his life is and offering her an out of their oopsie vegas marriage, and she keeps saying no.. reading her POV was like witnessing someone gaslight themselves into believing someone isn't a bad guy when they are unequivocally telling and showing you they aren't good. She watched Leo kill three people and internally goes "I should be running the other way, but then I ask myself why he did it and it was to protect me so I stay" and she is unbelievably nieve in her understanding of what a Cartel is and how they function. It gave "I can fix him" vibes, and I'm not about that. It was all just a bit cringe and not for me, unfortunately.
