I loved this so much! We learn more about the magic, including the Warrens and the Deck of Dragons. I loved being back with characters from Gardens of the Moon as well as meeting new characters. I was so invested. The world and plot was epic and incredibly creative. I am still in awe of Erikson's ability to craft a fantasy on this level, complete with entire races, cultures, lore, and history. I ran the gamut of emotions with Memories of Ice, and the pay off was extremely rewarding. ALSO, THAT EPILOGUE.
“We humans do not understand compassion. In each moment of our lives, we betray it. Aye, we know of its worth, yet in knowing we then attach to it a value, we guard the giving of it, believing it must be earned, T’lan Imass. Compassion is priceless in the truest sense of the word. It must be given freely. In abundance.”
“A pointless, senseless death.’
‘They’re all pointless and senseless, friend. Until the living carve meaning out of them."
“Diversity is worth celebrating, Humbrall Taur, for it is the birthplace of wisdom.”
“What the soul can house, flesh cannot fathom."
