From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata

5.0

I loved this book! I’ve been looking for a good enemies to lovers book for ages, but they’d all been underwhelming. From Lukov With Love had the perfect amount of antagonism mixed with love and respect.

I was a little worried going into this read that I wouldn’t be able to stop comparing it to The Cutting Edge, but I actually barely thought of that movie while reading. With both of them being about pairs skaters who hate each other, there are definite moments, but they don’t take away from this story at all.

Ivan and Jasmine’s relationship worked so well for me because it came from friendship and mutual respect for each other. I love the enemies to lovers trope, but it can often be done in a dysfunctional way that leaves a bad taste behind. Even when they despised each other at the beginning, you could still see these two acknowledge the other’s talent. Some of the barbs they traded rubbed a little the wrong way (Ivan, it’s never okay to comment on a girl’s wait, mmkay?)...but even that became endearing by the end. Every time he’d call Jasmine “Meatball” - something I groaned at when I started the book - it came across as caring and loving. No idea how, but it did.

Overall, I thought this was a really special book. I can’t wait to read more by this author!
