The Vanishing Girl (Daphne and Velma YA Novel #1), Volume 1 by Josephine Ruby
4.0
***3.5***
I love Scooby Doo and I think this was definitely an interesting take on the pre-existing characters we had. From what I can tell it’s like an alternate history of the mystery inc version of Scooby Doo with characters framing the same names like Marcy and then the setting of Crystal Cove. That’s where the similarities sort of stop though, forget everything you know about how the gang is a gang and imagine it as if Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Fred were mere just school friends who have drifted apart since elementary school. I have a couple things I want to say under this that lean into spoiler-ish territory, so before I put that I’m going to say that I liked this book, and it was an insanely fast read for me. I think if you’re a fan of Scooby Doo this is definitely worth checking out!

Okay so away the end I think this series is setting up to be a formation of the gang and if I’m right I think that bumps this story up so much for me. That being said I think that could’ve been done in this book, and just made it longer and maybe intertwine the stories a little bit more.
