Read this for a book club; it was a WILD ride. It flops timelines, which I have read many times, but for some reason, it was incredibly irritating and confusing in this book. I never really knew where Michael stood in his feelings for Erika.
This book follows Erika Fane and Michael Crist and their present and past relationship. Erika is a family friend who has essentially been raised by the Crist family, especially when her father dies in an accident. She has been forced into a relationship with Michael's younger brother Trevor even though she worships the ground Michal walks on. Michal has always been cold and unapproachable, lurking in the background with his three close friends, nicknamed The Four Horseman. The story tells us about something tragic that happened involving all characters.
The present time shows Erika trying to be her person, living away from everyone from home after ending things with Trevor. She runs into Michael and his friends, who have just been released from prison, and things start getting scary. They close in on her in their revenge as they believe she is the reason they went to prison. After forcing her into incredibly terrifying circumstances, she realizes this is revenge, and the truth emerges (No spoilers). There are references to past events and chapters specific to tell that story.
I'll be honest: this was not my favorite. Several times, I thought there were no redeeming qualities for these guys; that was true for Damon and a bit of Will. Michael and Kai are working on healing and improving, so I will give them a slight pass. I plan on reading Kai's book and maybe Will's, but I want nothing to do with Damon.
