Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

2.0

This was a book I started reading to jump on the bandwagon, as everything you hear and see at the moment is "Fifty Shades". But mid-way through, I wondered why I'd bothered. The book's content is probably it's appeal, over it's craftsmanship. However, the combination of this is not being a genre I particularly enjoy and feeling of an editor absence throughout distracted me from the story at regular intervals and turned me off the novel almost completely. However, somehow, in a way I cannot explain, this book did grip me enough to keep me reading to the end (and it's not exactly a short novel!) Plus I also now have this need to go out and buy the second installment. Despite my better judgement, I'm hooked on Christian Grey: a character who I have never hated so much in my whole literary life.

I agree with my friends, "Why are you reading that?!", but honestly, I have no idea. All in all, I am thoroughly confused. Maybe I'll figure it out by the end of book number three.
