Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

5.0

Wow! The Dystopian genre is one of my favs, and this did not disappoint!!

For anyone who was an 80’s teen, kid or baby just read this for the nostalgia around 80’s pop culture.

At first I thought this was a YA or teen read, but it’s not. There is adult/young adult language throughout, in case you screen what your kids read.

Wade is a typical teen/young adult who is obsessed with video games and is heavily involved (if not almost completely) into the virtual world of The Oasis. He quickly (along with the rest of the players in The Oasis) get lured into a game to find the recently deceased CEO/creator of The Oasis hidden Easter Egg.

Wade and the other fanatics fight for hidden keys and go up against a rival organization in the search for the Easter Egg and speculated millions in current world currency.

This has a it all, video games and arcade games (primarily 80’s) D&D, John Hughs, the band Rush, and a bunch of other 80’s references.

I appreciated the 80’s references and thoroughly enjoyed listening to Will Wheaton narrate Ready Player One. Highly recommend this read!
