Courting Death and Destruction by Emily Shore
5.0
A beautifully dark slow burn romance with enemy to lovers, secrets and betrayals, trauma and healing, sarcasm and banter, and interesting diverse characters including Queer representation and DID.
There's Angels, Gods, Demons, Vampires, Dragons and all manor of creatures in the Chasm, and a particularly sweet hellcat.
This book stands out as it isn't the typical villain gets the good girl, good v evil or Insta-Love, it's deep, intense and captivating, their relationship grows over time, they have their ups downs and funny moments, but there's a growing passion, understanding, and equality, even if it's dark and dangerous.
With prophecies to fulfil, threats to eliminate, and a need for revenge and justice, it's also a journey of healing and overcoming trauma for more than one character.
The characters aren't defined to good and bad, it's morally grey, blurred lines, hidden agendas and masked emotions, so the story keeps you on your toes not knowing who can be trusted and what is real, throws you into the deep end with the themes explored, and leaves you hanging with the final chapters and craving to know what's next.
Looking forward to book 2 and seeing more of Elysia, Neo and Thanatos, and how dynamics might change and what chaos comes next.
