This is one of the most important books I've ever read. It's a wonderful deep dive into understanding why it is that people mean when they say "defund the police." Like the prison abolition movement, this relevant book gives historical insight into why and how funds for police can and should be redirected to mental health, education, housing, healthcare in order to support communities most in need instead of policing and imprisoning those same communities. Moreover, the book is a terrific roadmap as to how community organizers can work to abolish the police as we know it in their communities.
